97.7 TASMAN FM is the call sign of Tasman Community Broadcasters Inc. (an incorporated association). Born out of the Port Arthur tragedy of 28 April 1996, 97.7 TASMAN FM began scheduled transmission on 30 May 1999. From that date until 2 Feb 2002, we boadcast on 89.3MHz. Our studios are located at the Tasman District Hight School, Nubeena, between the Community Library and the Tasman Online Access Centre making the school campus not just the centre of education on the Tasman Peninsula but the focal point of the whole community. Whilst 97.7 TASMAN FM serves the communities of the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas, the location of our transmitter enables our signal to be received widely throughout southeastern Tasmania. Reception is best achieved with a vertical FM antenna, although we have a mixed-polarised array (thanks to the Dept of Police and Public Safety and Minister David Llewellyn, in March 2002) ... which has make reception considerably easier. The creation of the station was only made possible through the generous assistance of many individuals, companies and organisations, both at our studios and transmitter site.
